Thank You!

As I start to get inquiries now for 2015 I just wanted to give thanks to all the families that came to me to capture their memories in 2014.  Since being back in California it was a rough start getting my name out there....and here I thought Okinawa was saturated with photographers.  Boy did I get a rude awakening when coming to Oceanside.  But I did it! Slowly but surly my Facebook page started gaining new likes from locals and then word of mouth started.  I was a little nervous at first but just did what I do and kept trucking along.  I was able to help out my husband with holiday expenses and birthday gifts which was my main goal.  I accomplished that goal and now am in the process of setting new goals and adjustments for this coming year.  Not only did I meet some amazing people, great kids and loving couples, I also had some returning families that I had the pleasure of shooting in Okinawa that are also now in California.  All in all it was a great year for my business even thou it felt as if I was starting all over again.  Learned that I have to believe in myself and have confidence that others love my work as much as I love photographing.  Here's to 2015 and I can't wait to meet more families and hopefully see some returning ones as well!

Baby Love {Lifestyle Newborn}

If there is one style of photography I love it's lifestyle.  It's how I capture my own family.  It conveys the realness of the world around you.  It captures the real laughs, giggles, touches, and love between the persons within the frame.  When it comes to newborns sure the cute poses in the baskets are fun and the infants always look adorable but there's no connection.  There's no feeling.  And little do people know it takes multiple images to make the one when following safety standards and posing a little one propped up on its elbows or hanging in a 'storks blanket'.  With lifestyle photography things are much simpler.  Swaddling, snuggling with mama, laying in their crib, making memories in the comfort of ones own home is how I capture new life.
Now that you have an idea as to what lifestyle photography is and why I shoot that way let me introduce to you this little man.  I met this couple while we were stationed in Okinawa.  They were just dating at the time and flash forward a couple years; they are now married and welcomed their first born into the world this December.  After a couple days of adjusting as a family of three at home they welcomed me in to take some photos.  I was so excited and it also made my own baby fever grow! And now I present to you baby Love.

Sharpe {Family}

Well it's been a minute since I last blogged and I figure I would break the silence with the last family I had the pleasure of photographing in Okinawa.  I have been away from the island for over a year now and still not a day goes by without missing something about Japan.  This session of a wonderful mother and daughter team with little Troy is a reminder of the beautiful oceans and backdrops the little island of Okinawa offered daily.
This session captured Troy's first birthday with the help of his mom and grandma who clearly loves him to the moon and back.  Love capturing the connection between grand babies and their grandparents and boy did these two have quite a love for one another. And to the Sharpe family, thanks for allowing me to ending my time in Oki capturing not only your love for one other but your love for the beautiful island and Japanese culture!

Good-bye Okinawa and all its amazing-ness!
